The ''Wei'' Cupboard
The ''Wei'' Cupboard
When in 2011 Jorge Suárez-Kilzi visited China, a simple but strong idea appeared in his head in a calm way that would revisit him: "In China, doors and windows aren't always square like in Europe". This is a very innocent assessment of his 20 year old self at the time. However it evoked a strong sense of posibilites in his work moving forward.
This very special piece captures the movement of the wheel, a round shape more connected to motion than to stillness, again giving shape to one of the pilars of Kilzi as a design project: the tension between movement and the fact that many objects are fix in nature. The stilts or scaffolding holding the wheel in place gives us a sense of the ingenuity and craftsmanship of China and its constant zest for evolution and progress (even when studying its ancient history).
The material here is proposed as Chestnut wood. However this piece could be made in other types of wood or in lacquered pine.
This piece could be built in its 180cm tall and 160cm tall versions.
